En este apartado te hablamos de los "linking verbs", o "verbos vinculantes". El ejemplo más representativo de esta categoría es el “to be”, que funciona no solo como auxiliar, sino como vinculante.
Es importante resaltar que los verbos vinculantes no expresan acción cuando actúan como tales. Considéralos como un “eslabón” dentro de la oración debido a que unen el sujeto (pronombre o sustantivo) de una oración a adjetivos o adverbios.

Te dejamos unas cuantas oraciones modelo para que practiques con el verbo “to be”. Las oraciones utilizan varios adjetivos para que amplíes aún más tu vocabulario. En ellas, nota cómo un pronombre o sustantivo está vinculado a un adjetivo a través de “to be”:

Como práctica, puedes probar a cambiar el adjetivo y observa el trabajo que hace un verbo vinculante. Recuerda que el pronombre personal “it” toma el lugar de sustantivos como “lluvia”, “autobús”, “garaje”, etc.
Nota: Los siguientes verbos están siempre actuando como verbos vinculantes: am, is, are, was, were.
Y los siguientes pueden ser vinculantes y en ocasiones de acción:
Feel, grow, look, prove, smell, sound, taste, turn, entre otros.
Un verbo activo (acción) describe qué está siendo realizado; uno vinculante no expresa acción cuando actúa y une el sujeto (pronombre o sustantivo) de una oración a adjetivos y a otro tipo de información: ejemplos:
Carlos sounds the alarm.
Carlos suena la alarma. (Describe).
Carlos sounds crazy.
Carlos suena loco. (Vincula “crazy”).
- Carlos suena (como) loco. (Opcional).
Carlos sounds like crazy.
Carlos suena como loco. (Vincula “crazy”).
Carlos reads books.
Carlos lee libros. (Describe).
Carlos reads fast.
Carlos lee veloz. (Vincula “fast”).
Carlos smells books before reading them.
Carlos huele [los] libros antes de leerlos. (Vincula información).
Carlos smells bad.
Carlos huele mal. (Vincula “bad”).
